Studio Plastikart was invited by the Fondazione Opera del Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore to participate in the tender for the construction of the ancient façade of Florence Cathedral on a scale of 1:1, including reconstructions of the sculptures of the ancient façade, the bas-relief La Gabbia dei Grilli (The Cage of Crickets) from Brunelleschi’s dome, and three Tuscan white fir trees made of synthetic material located inside the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence.

Plastikart participated in and won the tender in a consortium with three companies, including Opera Laboratori Fiorentini.

Dividing the task between the three companies, Plastikart created a 1:1 scale copy of the 15-metre bas-relief “Gabbia dei Grilli”, three 8-metre trees on a 1:1 scale, and faithful copies of 23 Florentine sculptures from the ancient façade, dating from between 1300 and 1500.
